Your face in the tea clouds
across the breakfast table
That is my joy in living
Your step on the staircase
As the evening’s beginning
That is my joy in living
Your snore under the duvet
relaxed and free from caring
That is my joy in living
Your face in the tea clouds
across the breakfast table
That is my joy in living
Your step on the staircase
As the evening’s beginning
That is my joy in living
Your snore under the duvet
relaxed and free from caring
That is my joy in living
clouds begin to gather above the distant mountains across the sea
swimmers wade from the water, warming bodies with wrapped arms
a lizard disappears behind the waterfalling caper bush
and, as we look at one another, we understand
world stop turning
every day the morning sun lips the far horizon
and the ever-present present stretches to the future
night clouds part
as the west winds whisper away the mist
and sunlight cleanses the sea
no idea what to say or to do
swimming for the horizon
to see what is over the edge
playing chase in parks
sitting and thinking and talking in parks
walking alone around parks
stars softly look down
a single distant owl calls
stones wise as lovers
looking to the sunset
soft hand on strong shoulder
waiting for the night
and then the new beginning
clouds roll across the sun
in time with the crash of the waves
as we pick up towels and run for the car
the sky cries red-dust raindrops and we laugh
fireworks shook rolling thunder to life
as the moon rose and forked lightning fell
street performers drew expectant crowds
so many stories to hear and to tell
