and time and time and time
will catch us in its oily grasp
and hold us there unmoving
as people places memories all fade away
Poetry?
function non-function
the broken vase no longer holds flowers
but
the shape of its shards in the sand is pleasing
the vase was blue and held yellow spring flowers
the cat that smashed it tar black
water drains soon into dryness
I took the larger pieces
– the dust I blew into corners –
and painted bare pottery gold
laid in the garden its function has shifted
now pure adornment (if purity we know)
stop
reflect
still its being enchants me
in the darkness snow falls
in the darkness snow falls, covers snowdrops
green heart quivers
daylight cracks unclouded sky
iced snow shields the living
older men complete crosswords
once they would have celebrated a goal with a cheer, a punching fist
but now older men complete crosswords and smile
they know the past and its value
and the warm contentment that enfolds them into the darkness
dark night
dark night, dark dreams swirling
eyes flicker, will they open?
blue bruised sky slowly lightens
Arriving at school
Arriving at school without my pants
caused some moments of cognitive dissonance
I looked at the playground clock, it was just eleven
but then the alarm rang and I woke up at seven.
Aged forty eight.
Walk into the woods with me
Walk into the woods with me
There is no path but there is sunlight and shadow
Later we can decide
If we will ever walk out again
New word: thundersnow
new word: thundersnow
what on earth can that be like?
my heart in your hands
The clue to the title is ‘six’
I still did not know your name
when I first saw your smile
I stood there in the melted snow
bus waiting hands burning despite my gloves
love (I think) filled my heart
snow on sea
snow on sea
salt flake melts on tongue
single tear falls
