Pain knows my name

“Pain is not a punishment, pain is always a warning. Death is the only punishment.” (Quotation)

Pain knows my name.

Pain ticks my name in my temples.

Pain whispers my name when I’m thinking of silence.

Pain screams through my blood when I’m gasping for sleep.

Pain fogs my head and bone grinds my patience to dust.

Pain knots blood wet ropes of razoring wire.

Pain flames bite black and tiger tooth savages darkness.

Pain saint martyrs my dreams, saint martyrs my dreams.

And then, please then, the silence, redemption.

Beneath the skins I breathe

Beneath the skins I breathe your breath.

Your head in my hands you lie still;

still and soft-muscled, all tension gone.

Your breath slow and dark hangs in the light,

the light strained through skins, my eyes are blurring.

My own breath slows, and slows.

Slow as yours, my breath hangs heavy.

Beneath the skins I breathe your breath.

Animal we are

Animal we are.
Blood pulses at our throat.
The feel of the flesh that forces the spasm
is as living in us as in those we look down on.
Muscles twitch our skin.
Though clawing for beauty, claw still we do,
the wink of an eye our only betrayal.

Animal we are.
Animal we die.
The roar of the rage at the end of the hunting
despite our soft bellies wells up all the same.

Animal we are.
